Pros and Cons of Invisalign

pros and cons of InvisalignPros and Cons of Invisalign

Traditional orthodontics might have been acceptable when you were a child – but now that you have a busy career, clients to meet with, and a put-together adult appearance to maintain, a mouthful of metal is not always desirable. Invisalign clear braces are a great alternative that allow you to adjust your bite and tooth alignment without anyone the wiser. However, there are a few pros and cons of Invisalign to consider.

Pro: Less Chance of Infection

Invisalign clear braces are removed when you eat or perform oral hygiene. This ensures that no food is trapped in your braces, and that you can thoroughly clean your teeth regularly, both of which cut down on the chances of decay or infection.

Con: Not Always Appropriate

Invisalign is really only good for mild orthodontic needs. Slightly crooked teeth or misaligned bites can respond very well. Teeth that need to be rotated, moved vertically, or have a long way to go for a proper adjustment, may only be fixable with traditional braces.

Pro: More Comfortable

In addition to being totally invisible, Invisalign braces are much more comfortable. Instead of having the dentist tighten metal wires in your mouth, which can poke your cheeks and make them raw, you just change your clear aligner tray once every few weeks. The very mild adjustments are much less painful than traditional adjustments.

Con: Not Appropriate for Anyone with Unhealthy Teeth

If your teeth are not in great health other than being misaligned, Invisalign often will not work for you.
